Reynaldo Fonseca


Reynaldo Aquino Fonseca (Recife PE 1925). Painter, muralist, illustrator. Attends as a listener to the Fine Arts School of Pernambuco, in Recife, in 1936, where he studied Lula Cardoso Ayres (1910-1987), and is teaching courses in design. In 1944, lives in Rio de Janeiro, and studied with Candido Portinari (1903-1962) for six months. It is one of the founders of the Society of Modern Art in Recife – SAMR, an association that aims to break with the academic system of education. Conducts a study trip to Europe in 1948. He studied engraving with Oswald (1918 – 1965) in the School of Arts and Crafts of Rio de Janeiro, between 1949 and 1951. In addition to printmaking, watercolor and uses predominantly the technique of oil on canvas, with an output figuratively. In mid-1952, becomes professor of artistic design at the School of Fine Arts University of Pernambuco – UFPE. Attended the Workshop Collective, founded by Abelard Time (1924), and conducts courses in drawing. Performs mural for the Bank of Brazil, in Recife, in 1964. Back to reside in Rio de Janeiro in 1969, and returned to Recife in the early 1980s. Illustrates, among others, the book painting and Brasileiras Poetry, with poems by Joao Cabral de Melo Neto (1920 – 1999), published in 1980. Between 1993 and 1994 the Centro Cultural Banco do Brazil – CCBB promotes retrospective exhibit of his production in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
